JOB POSTINGS

Law Office of James R. Vaughan, P.C. Representing Creditors in Arizona, Nevada, and Washington

Our law firm has an immediate opening for a legal assistant or paralegal in our Litigation Department. This is the group of people that takes claims handed off from the last department (Skip Trace) and gets them sued, defaulted, or otherwise (like after MSJ), gets us a judgment. (Service of process is handled by a separate department.) This group also manages the court calendars in 3 states. You will be busy.

We will look closely at candidates that have acquired certain skills and knowledge

  • Past experience drafting motions for attorney review. These facts + this evidence + these laws = this conclusion.
  • Rules of Civil Procedure as they relate to service and default (upper and lower      courts in AZ, NV, or WA - you'll learn the ones you don't know)
  • Calendar management for around 10-15 hearings per week.
  • Processing of Inbound court correspondence.
  • Basic skip tracing (finding locations) for people and assets using TLO,      Accurint, etc.
  • The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
  • The operational layout and actual locations of civil courts in AZ, NV, and/or WA

Unless you have done this exact job for a creditor’s rights law firm before, it will take you 3-4 months to get used to our system and our ways. You will look back at the 1 year mark and realize you felt out of your element for at least 6 months. So, be ready for a challenge.

As to potential candidates, we are interested in finding someone who has worked at a law firm in legal support handling civil litigation, collections, subrogation, or other plaintiff-side files. You may have the title of paralegal, legal assistant, file clerk, receptionist, or administrative assistant. You may also be a law student, probably in your first or second year. You may have some law firm experience and have just received your paralegal certificate. Apply!

We'll be specifically seeking a candidate with the following abilities:

  • 60 WPM keyboarding speed
  • Attention to detail (expect to be tested before an offer is extended)
  • Ability to follow complicated directions
  • Natural desire to work without direct supervision for long periods of time
  • Desire to learn our type of law (civil litigation)

If you work here, you can forget about:

  • Billing for time and having your hours cut down by your attorney. No longer.
  • Dealing with angry or wack-a-doodle clients. Our clients are HAPPY. You’ll see.
  • Putting up with aggressive, angry, or just plain negative attorneys or co-workers. I will not put up with it, so neither shall you. People like working here and you will too.

Jackpot Candidate:

  • Has 1-2+ years law firm experience
  • Is interested in growing with us
  • Is a hard worker with references
  • Expects high volume work product with few mistakes
  • Rolls in with a smile, every day

There is a 60-day trial period with rather fixed work days depending on the agreed-upon schedule. After that, most of the staff works flexible schedules. We do have occasional projects where we offer voluntary extra shifts. But nights, weekends, and overtime are basically off the table for you. Maybe you'd like to try a new life where you have a few three-day weekends per month, every month? You should apply.

We offer competitive benefits that include health insurance, accrual-based paid time off, and a generous 401(k) match. This firm takes pride in its family environment, sense of community, and long-term stability. That means your family can come join ours. If you've wanted these things but they were missing at your last job, you should apply.

This position is open immediately but we can wait a few weeks if you need to gracefully exit your current situation. You'll be trained/updated by support staff and attorneys (including the one doing the job now) that are used to doing what needs to be done themselves, and are extremely proficient with our software system. You won't be thrown to the wolves - the management here knows this may be a new way of working with the law for you, and we are very interested in your long-term success.

Please email your resume and salary requirements to eric@recoveryatty.com. If you think your resume isn't that applicable but you still want to apply, send one anyway and tell me your story. All resumes will be held in confidence.
